When actors and actresses play on-screen spouses, it can seem very authentic at times. It can be hard to tell where the boundary gets drawn between actuality and make-believe. In fact, Kimberly Williams-Paisley said that her husband of 23 years, country music star Brad Paisley, got humorously jealous when she grieved for her late spouse on 9-1-1: Nashville.

Williams-Paisley plays an emergency dispatcher named Cammie Raleigh on the popular ABC-TV drama. Her husband on the show, Mark, died tragically from choking. A call to 911 that might have saved him unfortunately went straight to voicemail, per People. Thus Cammie was deeply bereaved by his passing.
Williams-Paisley was on Good Morning America on Wednesday, April 15. She talked abut Brad's reaction to her TV spouse's sad demise.
Williams-Paisley Explained Husband Brad's Feelings About Her On-Screen Grief
The actress shared, "I have these emotional scenes because my character's husband died a few years ago, and so I really have to create a whole backstory for myself, 'cause I don't wanna imagine my own family or anything like that. I had an acting teacher who taught me to create an imaginary world that you really believe is there."
However, her preference for being totally authentic when she is in character seems to have gotten Brad's hackles up a bit, albeit comically. She added, "So, you know, we're watching the show, and Brad's like, 'Man, what were you thinking about?' And I'm like, 'I was thinking about Mark. He's like, 'Who's Mark?' And I'm like, 'Mark's perfect.' He goes, 'What the heck?'"
Would He Ever Want to Guest Star on the Show?
In 2025, Williams-Paisley told People that her singer husband might just make an appearance on 9-1-1 Nashville at some point. She shared, "He could, he'd probably be open to it." She added kiddingly, "I said we should put him in turmoil, put him in an accident or crisis of some kind and let me save the day. That would make me feel good."
She Said Five Years Ago That They Keep Things Lighthearted
In 2021, Williams-Paisley told People she and Brad are easygoing when they are together. It's a foundational element of their sturdy, loving marriage. She acknowledged, "That's a big part of our relationship—focusing on the laughter and keeping a sense of play."
