D4vd's attorney has since provided a statement regarding his arrest.
"Let us be clear - the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death," the attorneys' statement said. "There has been no indictment returned by any grand jury in this case and no criminal complaint filed. David has only been detained under suspicion. We will vigorously defend David's innocence."
According to sources who spoke with ABC News, "the arrest is based on evidence and probable cause that was developed." Those same sources made it clear that his arrest "was not an indictment."
Investigators told ABC News that they can prove Celeste's death was murder. Previously, the Medical Examiner faced the challenge of determining the cause of death due to the level of decomposition that had taken hold of her body.
"Investigators say they spent months building a case, gathering evidence they could stand behind," ABC News continued.
A Judge Previously Sealed Records Regarding the Investigation Surrounding Celeste Rivas Hernandez
In November, 2025, the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office received a court order to impose a security hold on the case of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, per the BBC. As such, no details could be made public.
Dr. Odey Ukpo, the Chief Medical Examiner, provided a short statement on the court's decision.
"We are dedicated to serving our community with full transparency; however, the law precludes us from doing so while the court order remains in this case," he said, per the BBC.
Celeste was reported missing in 2024. ABC News has noted that she may have been deceased for multiple weeks before her body was found in the trunk of the impounded Tesla.
The investigation is still ongoing. Currently, there are no further details regarding D4vd's arrest.
