Kirk Moore, 60, tackled and restrained 20-year-old Victor Lee Hawkins, who was armed with two loaded semi-automatic pistols. The shocking incident took place in the lobby of Pauls Valley High School last Tuesday afternoon, according to surveillance footage obtained by KOCO.
Despite being shot in the leg during his heroic takedown, Moore was able to subdue the shooter and avert bloodshed.
In a statement, Moore expressed gratitude for "an outpouring of love and support" following last Tuesday's incident at the school.
In an arrest affidavit, investigators said Hawkins walked into the school lobby that afternoon and told everyone to hit the ground. He then tried to open fire on one student, but his gun jammed.
Hawkins allegedly told investigators he "didn't like Principal Moore" and "went to the school to kill" him. The former student also allegedly stated that he "wanted to conduct his own school shooting like the Columbine shooters did." Referring to the 1999 high school shooting in Colorado that resulted in the deaths of 14 victims and two teenage shooters.
