What Is the Story Behind "Baby Jessica"?

On October 14, 1987, Morales made headlines after she fell 22 feet down a well in her aunt's backyard in Midland, Texas. She was just 18 months old.

The media covered the story for nearly all of the 58 hours that Morales was trapped in the well. News reporters dubbed her "Baby Jessica."

Then two years after the incident, the ordeal was dramatized in the television filmEverybody's Baby: The Rescue of Jessica McClure. In 2017, when asked to reflect on the harrowing moment, she told reporters, "Life is a miracle."

"In a way, I guess it happened the way it was supposed to," she said. "I was picked on because of it, but most people are kind and think what happened is an amazing miracle. It is. I don't believe that any of it would've happened without God."

In the over three decades since, "Baby Jessica" Morales has stayed in Texas. She met her husband, Danny, through his sister in 2005. She "instantly fell in love with him" and they married the following year.

The couple has two children. Each of their kids also has a son, making Morales and her husband grandparents.
