Legendary '60s Star Takes a Tumble and Sustains Arm Injury

You may recall Ann-Margret, the legendary 1960s star who will turn 85 on April 28 and was married to Roger Smith for fifty years. She appeared in films such as Tommy, Viva Las Vegas with Elvis Presley, Magic, and Bye Bye Birdie, to name a few. She earned an Emmy, five Golden Globes, plus a couple Grammy noms and two Academy Award noms as well. Unfortunately, Ann-Margret had a fall at her home recently and broke her elbow.

However, the unstoppable actress and dancer says she is mending. Per Parade, she seemed to take her accident in stride. She shared with the outlet, "I fell the other day and so now my right elbow is broken. That's okay ... I have fallen so many times. I don't intend to, but I do! What can I say?" Although she had to bow out of an autograph signing event, the redheaded Swedish celeb confirmed that she's doing well. Ann-Margret affirmed, "Yes, I am. I sure am!"

She Had Another Scary Fall Years Before

This is not Ann-Margret's first tumble. In 1972, when she was at a Nevada casino to perform there, she fell a terrifying 22 feet from a platform. Her multiple injuries were very serious. She described them in her book, My Story.

"My face was collapsed and swollen beyond recognition. Numerous bones in my face were either broken or fractured. My jaw was broken in two places. My left arm was broken ... The doctors feared I'd never dance again—if I survived."

Following Ann-Margret's recuperation, she came roaring back to the entertainment career she loves.

The Star Abides by a Simple, Enduring Philosophy

Nothing keeps this woman down! In fact, she has a philosophy that emphasizes perseverance and persistence. Ann-Margret said per the outlet, "I have always learned from my parents that you just get up. You just start all over again. Nothing's impossible I have found, for when my chin is on the ground; I pick myself up, I dust myself off, and I start all over again!"

She has needed to be resilient. In addition to her 1972 accident and the more recent one, Ann-Margret hurt her arm while filming Tommy and required 27 stitches. Then 26 years ago, she was in a motorcycle accident. Ann-Margret broke her shoulder plus four ribs.

An Award Is Coming Her Way

Next month, on May 18, 2026, Ann-Margret will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. It will be presented at the Chita Rivera Awards. The occasion will be held at the NYU Skirball Center. The star is really thrilled to get this prestigious accolade. "It means the world. My goodness. I've always thought of myself as someone who moves. I'm a mover!"
