It was a normal night for the Mitchell family. They were sleeping soundly in their bed, quiet as mice. But then, they woke up unexpectedly at 12:30am. Their dog, Ellie, had started barking. She had been startled after hearing some loud noises.
A pretty standard affair, right? Nothing to write home about, dogs can get startled from time to time. But, nothing about this was standard. And, as reported by People, they had a pretty surprising discovery to make.
Joni Mitchell explained what happened in an interview with a local news outlet. She remembered talking to the dog, trying to figure out what was happening. "I was like, 'What's going on, Ellie?' And I did hear some noises... All of a sudden, I started hearing [groaning], and it was coming out of the fireplace."
What would your first instinct be? Well, Joni's was to wake her husband. He (obviously) was pretty groggy and had no idea what was happening. His first thought was "maybe a raccoon or something."
But Curt was going to find a pretty strange-looking raccoon. When he opened the flue in the fireplace, he found a 33-year-old man stuck in there! He was "freaking out". When firefighters showed up to set the man free, he told them that he was "being chased", and he needed to get away from... "something." But authorities think he was trying to burgle the place.
What a crazy story. We sure hope they don't have to pay for the damages to their fireplace!

This Comes After Another Man Got Stuck in a Fridge Hiding From Police
But that's not the only elite-level hide-and-seek spot people have found. As we reported back in March, one Georgia man tried to hide in a fridge. This comes after he attempted to burglarize a vacant apartment property.
The police were alerted to the possible burglary after loud noises were reported by a neighbor. When they got there, they took their time clearing every room one by one, and then they got to the kitchen.
He was sitting in the fridge, and when police finally realized, they just sat there and waited for him to come out. His reason? "It's cold outside."
