Jayden Cintron, a North Carolina resident, noticed the large sum of money in the store restroom. The cash was concealed in two white envelopes near the toilet, one labeled First Citizens Bank and the other Truist Bank, containing a total of $9,333.
Cintron recalls being surprised when he stumbled upon the staggering amount.
"My first thought was just like ... ok, no, this isn't happening," he told WITN. "Something is wrong."
When the initial shock wore off, Cintron knew he wanted to return the money to its owner.
Asked why he didn't pocket the money for himself, he said: "That's not what Jesus would've done. That's not what God would've wanted."
Law enforcement praised his integrity, while acknowledging that most others would have responded differently.
"A lot of people will ... unfortunately, take that money and run with it," Kinston Police Chief Keith Goyette said.
"Kudos to that employee at Chick-fil-A. He definitely deserves a reward."
Chick-fil-A Employee Earns Cash Reward
When the rightful owner claimed the envelopes, he offered Cintron a $500 reward for his honesty. The teenager initially refused, but accepted the gift after repeated offers.
Chick-fil-A employees have earned a reputation for being pleasant and going above and beyond for their customers. There have even been memes dedicated to the elite customer service of the popular food chain's workers.
In the most recent American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), Chick-fil-A ranked highest in customer satisfaction for the 11th year in a row.
The annual survey compiled data from over 16,000 customer experiences at fast-food restaurants in the past year. Chick-fil-A ranks number one in the Western, Southern, and Midwestern regions.
Still, ensuring that $10,000 cash is returned to a diner takes customer satisfaction to the next level.
