Almost 2 million popular steam cleaners have been recalled after a serious hazard in the design caused burn injuries for users. As reported by People, the recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on April 9.
1.7 million BISSELL steam cleaners are affected. More specifically, the "steam shot omnireach" and "steam shot omni steam cleaners with attachments".
The steam cleaners are very popular online and in-store. They are sold nationwide at giant store chains like Target and Walmart. They are also sold online on BISSELL's website, as well as online stores like Amazon.
Both products have an issue where the attachments on the product can "unexpectedly detach from the steam cleaners", which can "expel hot water or team onto users during use".
BISSELL has received over 200 reports about hot water coming out from the attachments unexpectedly. Of these reports, over 150 were cases of burn injuries, with one being a painful second-degree burn.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said that not all attachments are affected - and it depends on the steam cleaner model. There are a variety of affected attachments. They include accessory nozzles, grout brushes, round detail brushes, flat scraping tools, extension hoses, and steam squeegees.

Officials Have Warned Against Using the Steam Cleaner Attachments
BISSELL officials have said that customers should "stop using the... attachments immediately". They have also set up a website where people can request replacement attachments completely for free.
"Consumers should visit www.steamshot2026.com to register for the recall and for instructions on how to participate in the recall." In order to receive the new attachments, customers must "upload a photo showing the original attachment... disposed of in the trash."
The website includes pretty detailed instructions about the types of products affected. It also includes clear steps about what to do, with BISSELL emphasising that customers shouldn't dispose of the machine, water tank cap, or measuring cup. It's a pretty fair assumption that the whole machine might have the issue - but BISSELL want to make it clear it's only the attachments.
We hope everyone who has been injured because of this defect is okay.
