Shocking Moment Michigan School Bus Crashes Into Ditch After Road "Gave Out"

The Michigan school bus crashed into a ditch when the road gave way whilst the driver was trying to avoid potholes. Several kids were injured.

A school bus in Huron Township, Michigan crashed into a ditch, leaving several students injured. As reported by 7 WXYZ Detroit, the crash happened on Thursday, April 9 at around 8:36am local time.

Huron Township police explained that the school bus driver was traveling on the right side of Clark Road. He was trying to avoid potholes plaguing the road, before the road itself "gave out", sending the bus straight into a ditch.

The crash left one fifth grader with a concussion, and several other students with minor injuries. One fifth grader, Lucas, revealed to the outlet that he had gotten on the bus moments before it hurtled into the ditch.

"I realized it right here," he recalled, pointing to the road. "I was like, oh, crap, we're about to crash! Everyone started screaming, and I was like, seeing random stars and stuff, because I hit my head on a bar."

Lucas also explained that people in the area came to their rescue. They helped place boards down to get the students off the bus. This was because it was very dark and the presence of mud and water could have made things dangerous.

A Student's Mother Recalled the Crash

A mother of a third grader who was present on the bus explained to the outlet the terrifying moment she heard the crash happen whilst she was on call to her son.

Ashley Beard revealed she thought the worst when the crash happened. "He called me like screaming, 'Mom, the bus is tipping, the bus is tipping over!' And I'm like, what?" she explained. She also said she could hear kids screaming and crying in the background. She also said that she was glad the crash wasn't worse than they could have been.

The Wayne County Department of Public Services also released a statement to the outlet. "Our primary concern is the safety of the students and the driver involved. We are relieved to report that the injuries appear to be minor and extend our support to everyone affected... We will continue to cooperate with Huron Township Police."

We're very glad everyone's okay.
