Golfer Kicked Out of The Masters for Breaking Major Rule

Movie theaters don't allow you to use your phone during the show, but that doesn't stop people from doing it anyway. However, The Masters strictly enforces their no-phone policy.

Mark Calcavecchia found out how rigorously it imposes this simple rule on Tuesday, March 7. As reported by the New York Post, the 1989 British Open champ was escorted out of Augusta National Golf Club by security for violating the policy.

You Can't Use Your Phone at The Masters

The reasons why Calcavecchia used his phone during The Masters tournament on Tuesday, March 7, aren't known. He didn't deny what he did when he spoke to a reporter earlier this week.

"I've got nothing negative to say about Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters, so I think we should literally hang up right now," he said.

Augusta National Golf Club, the home of The Masters, has not commented on the report.

Calcavecchia is a 13-time PGA Tour winner. He has played at The Masters 18 times in his career. He was the runner-up back in 1988.

It's Not the First Time This Has Happened

In 2011, former pro and Golf Channel broadcaster Charlie Rymer was also kicked out after using his phone. This didn't happen when he was a player. At the time, he was a credentialed member of the media covering The Masters for Westwood One Radio.

Rymer walked out of the media center for a moment to talk on his phone. Security caught him in the act. The commentator reportedly broke into tears. Security still told him to leave.

Last year, comedian Shane Gillis shared his experience at last year's Masters in Augusta. He made it known that it was like hell on Earth.

"I just don't give a f**k about golf. I really wanted to," Gillis said. "You couldn't see a f**king thing. There were some awesome spots, was that 6 that was a Par 3? That was great."

Gillis wasn't a fan of the food either.

"The food can go f*** itself," he shared. "Everybody is like, 'Wait until you try the cheese sandwich. It's only a dollar fifty.' Turns out they got the price exactly right. That thing was a dollar f***ing fifty cheese sandwich. [It] was freezing cold."
