Norman was an anchor on Good Morning America for the weekend rotation. On Instagram, the TV personality spoke out about leaving the show.
"I hope that we'd have more time," Norman began. "It's been hard on me that our time was cut short. I have loved my job. It has been a joy to connect with my coworkers and with viewers, to help keep you informed and entertained, and to create this community."
"It really breaks my heart that I don't get to say goodbye," she continued. "I'm so sorry that I don't get to say goodbye. It would've been fun."
Norman is looking forward to spending time with her family and children. She said that she's still planning what's next.
'Good Morning America' Cuts Contract
"I have these three young kids, and I have worked weekends their whole lives," she said. "So now, they get more of me and that is worth everything. So stay tuned. I'm sorry. I feel you. Thank you to every single one of you who has reached out with such kind and validating words. I have needed it and I appreciate it."
Prior to Norman's confirmation, independent daily newsletter Status suggested that Good Morning America wouldn't be renewing her contract. Apparently, the anchor had known since March that she would be leaving.
Her contract was due to expire in May, but the show took her off early when it leaked to the public.
"Janai has known since early March she wasn't going to be renewed and has been on the air for weeks, completely professional with no issues," a source said. "But when the story leaked online, she was abruptly taken off the air. Her contract is not up until early May."
Kenneth Moton, Norman's former co-anchor, shared a message of encouragement to the anchor.
"CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ? Proud of you @janai," he wrote. "?? the work you put in. And what you accomplished. You survived. You thrived. Can't ??wait ??for this next chapter...because it's going to be...??."
