The Fiery Way One 99-Year-Old Celebrated Her Birthday

Think back to when you made a wishes you blew out your birthday candles. Did any of those wishes ever come true?

Chances are, they didn't. But for one Massachusetts woman celebrating her 99th birthday, her dream actually came true, making this birthday her "best" ever.

What Did the Woman Wish For?

Theresa Gola didn't keep her love for a man in uniform a secret from the staff of the Palm Springs Post Acute Nursing Home in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, where she has lived for about a year.

The former mill worker and nurse's aide claims her admiration for first responders isn't just about their looks. Gola respects their kindness and bravery. But let's be honest, looks probably have something to do with it.

As her birthday approached, the near-centenarian asked for as many "hunky" firefighters to visit her for a birthday party.

According to PEOPLE, members of the crews at the Chelmsford, Lawrence, Lowell, Dracut, and Westford fire departments visited Gola on Tuesday, March 31, to celebrate with her.

Not strippers, mind you. Real actual firefighters.

The heartfelt visit moved Gola to tears. Reflecting on the moment, she declared this year's birthday to be "the best birthday ever."

"Firemen are the best, I don't care what anybody says," she added.

What Did the Firefighters Do?

The firefighters in attendance went out of their way to make Gola feel special. They walked with her down an aisle. A few delivered her some flowers and signed a poster for her. The first responders even sang her "Happy Birthday" and ate some cake with her.

One firefighter burst through a gigantic banner to deliver Gola a rose and a hug.

"I was shocked to see all of this," Gola said. "I expected a couple of them to come, but not the whole fire department!"

Gola then shared her secret to a long life. "Wine," she said. "You have a little bit of wine every night, and you're all set."

Here's hoping she has enough vino for her 100th birthday, which she is already planning.

She said, "Next year, I want the firemen in bathing suits!"
