Alexander Explained to Viewers Why He Is Exiting
The veteran newsman put it this way. "I've been away from home more than 80 nights in the last seven months, more than 200 Friday nights away from my family in the last seven years. So, in this limited window before my daughters lose interest in hanging out with me — it's already happened quick — I'm eager to carve out a better balance between my personal and professional lives and to challenge myself with something new."
However, Alexander affirmed how much his NBC colleagues have meant to him. "It's hard to believe, but I have been part of the NBC family for longer than I've had my own family. Studio 1A, being right here with his team and with all the folks you don't see on TV, this is literally my happy place."
He helmed the popular broadcast with Laura Jarrett. Alexander earned her sincere kudos. Upon his announcement, she said, "Peter, we love you, we are going to miss you. You are a brilliant journalist...You only get one shot to be Ava and Emma's dad. 200 nights is a long time. They are lucky to have you as their father."
He Started at NBC in 2004
His stint at NBC News began in 2004 and he subsequently rose in the organization. Peter Alexander was named White House correspondent eight years later. His Saturday Today gig began in 2021. At that time, he shared chief White House correspondent duties with Kristen Welker. The pair hosted Saturday Today for three years. She took over as host of Meet the Press in 2023 when Chuck Todd left the program.
