A woman in the UK who had sexual relations with identical twins has been told it's not possible to find out the father.
As reported by Sky News, the woman had relations with the pair "within four days of each other", leading to the birth of Child P. And now, they're taking it to court.
This comes after a family court judge refused to remove the name of one of the twins from the birth certificate. This happened because of child support. Whoever the father is would have to pay to help the growth of the child.
Sir Andrew McFarlane, a judge at the High Court, explained that there was no way to find the father. "Currently, the truth of P's identity is that their father... Is one or other of these two identical twins, but it is not possible to say which."
His statement continued, "It is possible, indeed likely, that by the time P reaches maturity, it may be possible for science to identify one father and exclude the other twin, but, for the coming time, that cannot be done without very significant cost, and so her 'truth' is binary and not a single man."
But, the alleged father on the birth certificate doesn't have to pay child support at the moment. This is because of the ongoing legal battle, and the ambiguity behind the real identity of the father.

The Case Is Still Ongoing
As well as this, Sir Andrew has emphasised the complexity of the case.
He explained that the first twin was "not entitled" to be registered as the father. This means any parental responsibility he did have isn't a problem for him anymore.
But, Sir Andrew said that he also didn't want to say that the first twin wasn't the father, either. He said he was "wholly unpersuaded" to do so. He further explained, "The failure to prove a fact means that that fact is not proved. It does not mean that the contrary is proved."
He continued, "There is a distinction between something being not proven, and making a positive declaration that the fact asserted is not true."
What a strange case!
