Getting to sing the national anthem at a popular sports event is a pretty big privilege. Even more of a privilege when it's a legendary team like the Mets. But, lots of things can go wrong. It's a pretty difficult thing to pull off - as one Hamilton star found out.
As reported by TMZ, Hamilton star Christopher Jackson managed to mess up the words during his performance today, March 26. Whilst he managed to get the majority of the anthem perfect, he mixed up one line with another earlier in the song.
Instead of singing "O'e the ramparts we watched", he instead sang "What so proudly we hailed", which is a line from earlier in that same verse. But, he carried on without any other issues, perfectly singing the rest of the song.
The Hamilton star has previously got things perfect. Last August, he belted out the anthem with zero issues for the Yankees. And, of course, he's been given lots of awards for his role as George Washington in Hamilton.
Let's hope this doesn't serve as a bad omen for the Mets! Their first game is currently happening against the Pirates.

The 'Hamilton' Star Isn't the Only One to Butcher the Anthem
This isn't exactly an uncommon incident. Accidents happen, especially in the front of a big, big crowd like the Hamilton star was.
And, as it turns out, in the grand scheme of things, his wasn't even that bad. Especially compared to some others.
According to Billboard, the apparent "worst" national anthem performance happened in 2008 during a Dallas Cowboys game. Kat DeLuna, a Dominican singer, was booked to sing the national anthem. But she absolutely butchered it.
Half-forgetting the lyrics, not hitting the notes she shouldn't have tried to hit in the first place, the works. And the worst part, according to the outlet, is that she thought she was doing really well. But, she was brought back to reality with a sea of boos from the stands. What a shame! She never managed to recover.
So, maybe the Hamilton star shouldn't feel too bad about the event. Because at least he's not gonna lose his career over this whole thing, right?
