On Wednesday (March 25), the ska punk trio featuring original members drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson, and now fronted by Jakob Nowell — son of late frontman Bradley Nowell — revealed that they've completed work on Until the Sun Explodes.

In a statement on Instagram, Nowell, 30, noted that they consider the group's acclaimed 1996 self-titled third album to be the "last" true Sublime record. The album consisted of classics like "Santeria," "Wrong Way" and "Doin' Time" and emphatically capped the band's run in the 1990s.

"There's no replacing history, period," Nowell stated. "Until the Sun Explodes the album is an epilogue, and 'Until the Sun Explodes' the single is the epilogue to the epilogue.

"It is a tribute to the expansive works of Sublime, it is an acknowledgment for all that my father has done for me my entire life. Most importantly, it is a thank you. I love you dad, and I owe you my life."

Sublime Snaps 30-Year Hiatus, Releases New Music Video

Sublime was formed in Long Beach, Calif. in 1988 by singer/guitarist Nowell, Wilson and Gaugh. They released their debut album, 40oz. to Freedom, in 1992, following it up with 1994's Robbin' the Hood.

The band's self-titled third album was released two months after Bradley Nowell died at 28 from a drug overdose. The fan-favorite LP peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The self-titled album was certified five times platinum by the RIAA in 1999.

Sublime is featured on the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 soundtracks, among other video game appearances.

The new album is due out on June 12 and the title track is out now. Sublime also released a music video for the title track.

Ryan Baxley directed the music video, featuring skateboard legends Christian Hosoi and Omar Hassan.

"This song expresses the gratitude we all feel. As well as our intent for the future of our band and the music we love! 'Until the Sun Explodes' is our reality," Gaugh said. "Thank you for enjoying life with us!"

Until the Sun Explodes will be available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
