54-Year-Old Woman Drowns at Texas Spa

The El Paso Police Department is investigating the unusual death of a local woman. She reportedly drowned at the Foliage Hair Salon and Day Spa.

As reported by PEOPLE, authorities were called to the El Paso spa at around 5 p.m. local time. Employees found the 54-year-old woman "unresponsive." She was then taken to the hospital, where she later died. 

What Happened to the Woman?

The death is being investigated by the Crimes Against Persons Unit of the El Paso Police Department as a drowning. Additionally, reports state that an autopsy will be carried out to determine the manner and cause of death. 

Laura Rayborn, the spa owner, said the business is cooperating with authorities and expressed sympathy for the woman's loved ones. However, she did not explain how the woman came to drown at the facility.

"Out of respect for the family's privacy, we will not be sharing personal details about this incident," she said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."

What Has the Spa Said Regarding the Incident?

In a statement sent to PEOPLE, it explains that "a guest... experienced a medical emergency while receiving services at our facility."

"During a scheduled private spa session, our team conducted a routine wellness check and found the guest unresponsive," noted the statement. "Emergency services were immediately contacted, and first responders arrived promptly to provide care before transporting her to a local hospital.

"This incident is currently under investigation by local authorities. Foliage Hair Salon & Day Spa is fully cooperating and will continue to support the process as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident. Local authorities have informed that they will also await official findings, including the results of an autopsy. Following the initial response and assessment by local authorities, Foliage Hair Salon & Day Spa was permitted to resume operations on Saturday, March 21."

The statement concluded, "The safety, care, and well-being of our guests remain our highest priority, and our team remains committed to maintaining the highest standards in all services we provide."
