Sam Hunt Reveals Why He Hasn't Released More Music

If country artists had career statistics like baseball players, then Sam Hunt would have a pretty high batting average.

The artist behind "Make You Miss Me" has seen 11 songs reach the top of the country charts. With only two albums released in his career, those are numbers that would make Shohei Ohtani jealous.

However, those albums were released six years apart. His full-length debut, Montevallo, came out in 2014. His follow-up, Southside, arrived in 2020. In the years since, Hunt has released a few singles here and there, but there hasn't been another album in the six years since Southside

Hunt recently shared the reasons for these delays and offered helpful advice on what not to do to remain productive.

Sam Hunt Knows He "Could Have More Music Out"

During an appearance on the podcast Taste of Country Nights, Hunt was asked what guidance he would give his younger self. The answer explains why it takes him so long to write a new album.

"I would tell my younger self to organize my work life in a better way so that I can be more productive. I think that has cost me time, and I could have more music out," Hunt said.

He added that when it comes to organization, he's a master of disaster.

"I've got songs scattered all over the country," he explained. "Losing phones and notebooks and those two years of songs are gone."

Hunt Also Has Difficulty Seeing Things Through to the End

It seems Hunt has no problem starting songs. However, it can be difficult for him to complete them.

He said, "I could have done a better job taking the original beginnings of songs and getting them to the finish line so that I can put them out."

Hunt said that he "finally" got his cloud "worked out so I can save those songs." But that doesn't mean we're going to get a new album any time soon.

He shared that when he is writing a song, it can take four or five years to get it from the notebook to the studio. While that sounds like a long time to us, we can't argue with the results.
