New Found Glory's Chad Gilbert Details Brain Tumor Diagnosis
On March 23, Gilbert took to Instagram to post several photos from his hospital recovery. He confirmed that his brain surgery on February 27 was "successful."
He also opened up about the symptoms that led to the alarming discovery.
"On February 20th, I played a show in Nashville and was struggling to control the movements of my left hand," Gilbert wrote. "My left leg was getting weaker by the day and I started stumbling and falling at times."
"On the 23rd I was taken to the ER where a CT scan showed 3 new tumors had appeared in my brain."
Gilbert said he regained function in his left hand immediately after surgery and expressed gratitude to those who have supported him.
He thanked his friends and family for being by his side throughout what he described as a "lengthy and challenging journey."
The guitarist added that he is hopeful about returning to music once he has fully recovered.
Long Health Battle Spans More Than a Decade
Gilbert's health struggles date back to 2010, when doctors found "suspicious cells" in his thyroid.
This led to surgery to remove half of the gland. At the time, no cancer was detected.
More serious complications followed in December 2021, when Gilbert was found unresponsive at home. He required emergency surgery to remove a rare cancerous tumor known as pheochromocytoma.
He was diagnosed again in 2022 after another tumor was discovered in his spine, requiring further surgery.
In February 2023, additional tumors were found in his lungs and back. This led to what was described as "intense chemotherapy."
Despite the ongoing challenges, Gilbert has remained a prominent figure in music.
As a founding member of New Found Glory, he helped shape the band's success. He also built a respected career as a producer.
He worked on several notable albums for A Day To Remember, including Homesick, What Separates Me from You and Common Courtesy. All of which played a key role in the band's rise to mainstream success.
For now, Gilbert's focus remains on recovery, with fans eagerly awaiting his return to the stage.
