In a recent development, more items have now been added to that recall. As reported by the New York Post, Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. is including nearly 10 million pounds of Trader Joe's Vegetable Fried Rice. Slivers of glass measuring 1 to 3 cm long and 2 to 4 cm wide were found in the one-pound packages, according to the FDA.
What Are the Details of This Expanded Recall?
The affected products had best-by dates from Feb. 28, 2026, through Nov. 19, 2026. They were sold in 43 states. Hawaii, Maine, New Mexico, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Iowa are not affected by the recall.
Other affected items include Trader Joe's Chicken Shu Mai—chicken and veggie dumplings with soy sauce. Trader Joe's Chicken Fried Rice, made with stir-fried rice, veggies, eggs, and seasoned dark meat chicken, is also listed. Their best-by dates range from Feb. 28, 2026, through Aug. 19, 2027.
The notice stated that an investigation showed that a "vegetable source ingredient, specifically carrots, was the likely source of the glass contamination."
Nearly 37 million pounds of ready-to-eat items have been recalled. The recall affects more than just Trader Joe's products. Sixteen brands, including Kroger and Tai Pei, have been impacted. You can find the complete list here.
Has Anyone Been Affected By the Contaminated Food?
So far, no injuries have been reported as a result of the contamination, according to the FDA. It encourages anyone who is concerned that they have been injured by the affected food to report to a "healthcare provider."
If any of the affected items are in your freezer, act immediately. Do not eat them. Dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase to prevent serious harm.
