A CNN anchor surprised viewers early this morning by sharing some "personal news."

The moment occurred during the 5 a.m. broadcast of the program Early Start. Rahel Solomon made the announcement.

"I have decided that this will be my last week at CNN. More to come on what's next for me, but I'm really excited about this next chapter," she said.

"Thank you to the team at Early Start. To the larger team here at CNN — I'm going to be cheering you on. I look forward to watching," she added. "So this is truly not goodbye, but see you soon."

CNN Anchor Shared News Months After Returning From Maternity Leave

This news comes just months after the 37-year-old Solomon returned from maternity leave. In December, she announced she had become a mother, then returned to the anchor desk in June after a six-month break.

Looking ahead, Solomon said Friday will be her last day on the show. However, she has yet to announce details about her next move.

While CNN has not publicly commented, the New York Post notes that a source close to the network indicated leadership is supportive of Solomon's decision.

Solomon's career at CNN began in 2022 as a business correspondent for CNN International, later advancing to anchor. Prior to CNN, she worked at CNBC as a general news reporter and before that, started as a morning news anchor at KYW in her hometown of Philadelphia.

This Comes During a Transitional Time for the Network

CNN is also involved in the $110 million Paramount-Skydance purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery. This deal, expected to close in the fall, will merge the network with CBS News.

Earlier this month, CBS News correspondent Scott MacFarlane announced he was leaving the network. His exit is one of many since Paramount-Skydance CEO David Ellison hired Bari Weiss to lead CBS News.

The former New York Times columnist founded the Free Press, a newsletter known for taking positions against 'cancel culture' and 'woke' politics.

Earlier this year, 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi accused Weiss of bias when she shelved a report on the infamous CECOT prison in El Salvador. Weiss said it needed voices from the Trump Administration.

She was also criticized for replacing CBS Evening News anchors John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois with Tony Dokoupil. The 45-year-old suffered through several missteps during his debut broadcasts, which drew widespread criticism.
