The family of James "Jimmy" Gracey, a University of Alabama student who had been reported missing in Spain, has spoken out after his body was found.

Authorities discovered a body in the water off a Barcelona beach on Thursday, March 19, during the search for the 20-year-old.
Shortly after the discovery near Somorrostro Beach, police confirmed that the body was Gracey.

Gracey was last seen on March 17 after a night out with friends.
"Our family is heartbroken as we confirm that Jimmy's body has been recovered in Barcelona," the family said via PEOPLE.
"Jimmy was a deeply loved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, and our family is struggling to come to terms with this unimaginable loss."
"We are profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers from people around the world. So many helped to share Jimmy's story and bring his life to light so that others may know him."
While authorities have confirmed the identity of the body, further details surrounding the circumstances of Gracey's death have not yet been released.
An autopsy is expected to be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Family Shares Final Moments Before Disappearance
Gracey's mother, Therese Marren Gracey, said in a
since-deleted Facebook post that her son had been visiting friends studying abroad in Barcelona.She explained that they had gone to a beachfront nightclub, Shoko, on Monday night. But Gracey never returned to their accommodation.
"He was last seen by his friend at Shoko around 3 a.m.," Therese wrote. "The friend was leaving but Jimmy stayed."
Spanish outlet El Periódico reported that surveillance footage captured Gracey leaving the nightclub with another individual.
The University of Alabama also released a statement following the news. The college said the death "is deeply felt across our campus" and that the community was "heartbroken" by his death.
"As we navigate this painful time, we kindly ask for privacy so that we may grieve together. And begin to process his loss as a family," the family added.
