In an Instagram post, the former frontman for The White Stripes shared an image of his mom onstage. The caption read, "Teresa Gillis 1930-2026. Rest in peace with the Lord."

Jack White Said That His Mother "Gave So Much of Herself"

In another post, White shared a photo carousel with several moving images of him and his mother together over the years.

"A woman who gave so much of her love, and gave so much of herself, to her family and everyone she met. She prayed for everyone daily," he wrote in the caption. "She loved the song 'Don't fence me in', and loved jigsaw puzzles and good Polish food.  She smiled and laughed so much, especially in these last few days with her family, who will all miss her dearly."

He then added, "She was the youngest of ten just like me, so we had that special bond together on top of everything else she gave me."

White then ended his tribute with a quote from one of the greats.

"They really don't make them like this anymore, and as George Jones once sang, that tough question lingers, 'Who's gonna fill their shoes?'" he concluded. "She was a Saint."

This Tragedy Comes 20 Years After the Death of White's Father

Gillis' death comes two decades after the death of White's father, Gorman. In addition to the 10 children they shared, the couple also had more than 19 grandchildren. Gillis was 45 when she gave birth to White.

In an Instagram post from late January, the "That's How I'm Feeling" singer shared a conversation he had with his mother.

"My 95-year-old mother just FaceTimed me from Detroit and said the most hilarious joke," he wrote. "She said, 'They're saying on the news that you should check on older people during this ice storm, so I thought I'd give you a call.' I laughed so loud! Love you, Teresa."

Fans and peers shared their memories of Gillis, who was a welcome sight in White's hometown of Detroit.

"I've seen pics of her dancing , just a year or two ago at Tiger Stadium, The Masonic Theatre, ... wherever you were playing," one fan wrote. "She was quite a woman!"
