'American Idol' Singer Drops Out After Newborn Son Gets Life-Threatening Diagnosis

Christian Brown felt compelled to leave 'American Idol' when his little boy received a serious medical diagnosis.

Sometimes life can get in the way of your career dreams. Christian Brown, 23, has had to put those big aspirations aside for now because of a major medical situation involving his little boy. But this is a young man who definitely has his priorities straight. Per WHAS11, "Four days after his son was born, Christian Brown stood before the judges on American Idol and sang his way to Hollywood Week." Then reality intervened.

Christian Brown's Child's Medical Condition

His newborn, Isaiah, had a congenital heart condition that necessitated surgery. There was absolutely no way around that. So the Franklin, Kentucky, singer knew what he had to do. Brown was eliminated from the competition, but he was invited to come along on the show's lengthy press tour. That excursion would have taken Brown far away from home and his ailing child for some time.

Per the outlet, Isaiah had a condition called coarctation of the aorta. It "increases blood pressure in the upper body while restricting flow to the lower body." That condition can be potentially life-threatening. The Browns piled into their car and drove for two hours to Louisville, where the surgery was done on Isaiah at Norton Children's Hospital. Brown's wife, Brenda, said, "He has to have this fix, or down the road he could have a heart attack or something happen to him."

Ironically, some twenty years before, Christian Brown's brother was also treated at Norton Children's Hospital for a congenital heart problem. Brown somberly reflected, "I remember being at the Ronald McDonald House in Louisville. Now we're here with our son, and it's this full circle moment."

Brown Had a Tough Choice To Make

Making the American Idol press tour would have been great for Brown's career. But it seems like he did not hesitate to back out when his wife and child needed him. According to the outlet, he said, "If I had a record deal sitting in front of my face and my son in the other hand, I'd choose my son any time over anything." That is a devoted dad!

He added, "It's love. He [Isaiah] makes me want to write again. He's bringing the words back to the music. I know how my dad felt back then. I do now."

As for his future, Brown will eventually be going back to Music City. It sounds like he has another opportunity but isn't divulging any details about it just yet.
