Nathan Fillion, who is on a hot streak of success at the moment, recently announced that the one-and-done TV show could be getting a reboot. The only caveat is that it'll be as an animated series rather than live action.
The announcement came directly from Nathan, in a video posted to Instagram.
"As of this moment, the word is out. We are going to try to bring back Firefly," Nathan said. "This time, we're going to animate it... It's crazy, but it just might work."
However, as the video continued, Nathan admitted that while the approval for an animated version of Firefly has received approval from the necessary people, it still needs a home...or rather, a network.
"The last piece we need is a home," Nathan continued. "A home. And for that, we need you. Like this post. Comment on this post. Repost this post. Tag your friends, your family, your enemies. I'm asking you to do what you've always done. Keep Firefly alive. Oh, and I'm about to go pitch this thing, so... Shukra."
It would appear that Firefly fans are ready and waiting to support Nathan in this endeavor. The video he posted received over half a million likes and almost 70,000 comments. That's a good start, right?
Nathan Fillion Recently Entered Season 8 of 'The Rookie'
For all the excitement that a potential reboot of Firefly will bring, Nathan is still flying high with The Rookie, which recently entered its eighth season. Cast in the role of John Nolan, Nathan has found huge global success with the show and will likely continue to play the character as long as the ratings hold steady.
However, fans of The Rookie will currently be on the edge of their seats, as the show is yet to be renewed for a season 9. We won't know if it's being picked up for another season (or more) until we get closer to the end of the current season.
But with a potential Firefly project to work on, Nathan will have plenty to keep him busy, regardless of how things shake out.
