Rock Icon Cancels Show After Being Left in "Catatonic State" Due to City Noises

Rock stars decide to cancel concerts for all kinds of reasons. Maybe they got sick. Or bad weather made it too treacherous for audience members to travel. If they had a severe personal crisis, that is another situation that might cause a show to be scrapped. For Morrissey, however it was a novel circumstance indeed that arose and got him to ditch an upcoming show in Valencia, Spain. The noise audible from his hotel caused Morrissey such intense "sleep deprivation" that he had to scrub his planned concert.

Morrissey Explained Himself on His Web Site

In a message on his web site dated March 12, 2026 and captioned "OH VAL-EN-CIA SO MUCH TO ANSWER FOR," the former frontman of The Smiths clarified what irked him so much that he had to change his schedule. It read, "Morrissey has described his hotel on Plaza Manises as...'indescribable hell. It will take me one year to recover. And that is an understatement."

In a second post also dated the same as the first and captioned "VALENCIA," fans were told "Tonight's scheduled show in Valencia has been rendered impossible due to sleep deprivation. Morrissey, 66, drove from Milan to Valencia but has been unable to rest in Valencia due to noise."

The message added, "The show is not cancelled. Circumstances render the show impossible."

A third post, "MENTAL IN VALENCIA," also from March 12, 2026, said that Morrissey had been traveling "for two days by road." He was unable to doze off peacefully or relax at his hotel because of "festival noise / loud techno singing / megaphone announcements." All the jangling outside reportedly put him in a "catatonic state."

The Artist Has Cancelled Shows in the Past

Morrissey called off his first show of 2026 on January 3 in Rancho Mirage, California. He could not perform because he had "an adverse reaction to a prescription medication." A San Diego show three days later was nixed as well. In late 2025, Morrissey scrapped five concerts in South America and two in Mexico on account of "extreme exhaustion," per New Noise Magazine.

His followers are undoubtedly eager to see Morrissey when he is feeling fit and ready to rock. Hopefully that will be soon.
