The Mustang, which has been in Underwood's possession for over 20 years at this point, is said to serve as a reminder of what got Underwood's career off the ground.

"I do still have the car that I won when I won American Idol," Underwood said during an appearance on Today's Country Radio With Kelleigh Bannen. "So I have my blue Mustang. And every once in a while something will happen where I'll have my car getting serviced or whatever, and I'll get to drive that car. And it always makes me want to drive it more, because it was such a pivotal point in my life. That was the car that I was driving around when I first moved to Tennessee, and I'm very, very glad I still have that car."

Underwood was a contestant on the 2005 season of American Idol. When she won, she secured a recording contract and the Mustang. We recently saw Underwood back behind the wheel of the vehicle during a March, 2025 episode of American Idol.

Carrie Underwood Was Recently Booed by the 'American Idol' Crowd

There's no doubt that Carrie Underwood is a valuable member of the American Idol judging panel. However, that doesn't mean she doesn't hold opinions that sometimes sit opposite to the crowd.

Underwood had one of those moments during a recent episode, where she questioned Mor's decision to sing an original song during Hollywood week.

"You guys are gonna boo me. You're gonna boo me," she announced to the audience. "It's coming. Bring it on. I love it! Your boos are feeding me...In a room like this, for you to bring an original song with that incredible band sitting behind you twiddling their thumbs, I feel like it was a missed opportunity."

Underwood has since gone

"Singing original music is SUCH a gamble at this stage in the competition. Don't. Waste. The. Band," she explained. "Mor's voice and previous audition kept him in. I wanna hear his original music after he's a big star!"

Underwood knows what it takes to win American Idol. Her blue Mustang is proof of that. Therefore, the contestants would be wise to listen to her advice.
