Son of Mayor Arrested for Falling Asleep in McDonald's Drive-Thru

The son of an Indiana mayor was found at a McDonald's restaurant drive-thru, where he was found having a snooze.

When you go to McDonald's, things can sometimes be a little slow. They might take a while to make your order, or there might be a big line at the drive-thru. But you usually don't fall asleep at the wheel!

According to the New York Post, Chris Roberson, the son of an Indiana mayor, was arrested on Saturday, March 1. This was after he allegedly took a nap behind the wheel. He was parked between the take-out windows at an Elkhart, Indiana McDonald's. Officers found him unconscious at around 3am.

After he'd woke up, and the officers realised it wasn't an actual medical emergency, they gave him a sobriety test and a breathalyzer. The result? A blood alcohol limit of .08%, more than twice the legal limit in Indiana.

Roberson was then taken to hospital to certify his blood alcohol content. But, that didn't stop him from being arrested. Based on the breathalyzer and his wild behavior, they arrested him on the charge of "operating while intoxicated".

He was released on a $25,000 bond. This is more than the usual OWI bond. But, this isn't the first time he's been arrested, so it was higher.

His Family Gave a Statement Confirming the McDonald's Arrest

His parents, Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson, and Regina Robertson, commented on their son's arrest.

"Regina and I love and will support him unconditionally through this difficult time. That being said, driving under the influence is dangerous and unacceptable", they wrote in a statement.

They continued, "We believe in accountability, and our son will face this matter through the appropriate legal process."

This comes after the Roberson family experienced the disappearance of the mayor's brother Garvin Roberson in 2023. As reported by WNDU, the mayor put out the following statement.

"We are devastated to learn that my brother Garvin has passed away... His family and fiancé Deb are appreciative of your prayers and support," The statement read.

The cause of death was confirmed to be drowning, after his vehicle was found submerged in a pond in St. Joseph County, Michigan.
