Major New Details in Case of Singer Linked to Death of 14-Year-Old

While no charges have been filed against the singer, he has been named a target of a grand jury investigation.

The remains of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez were found inside the front trunk of an impounded black Tesla located in the Hollywood Hills on Sep. 8, 2025. The singer D4vd, born as David Anthony Burke, became a suspect as the vehicle was registered to him.

The 20-year-old has now been named a target in the grand jury investigation of Hernandez's death. At this time, no charges have yet to be filed against D4vd.

What Happened to Celeste Rivas Hernandez?

According to PEOPLE, the Tesla where Hernandez's body was found was first reported abandoned on Aug. 26. D4vd was on tour when it was impounded on Sep. 5.

Prosecutors said in a petition for the attendance of an out-of-state witness that the manager of a Hollywood tow company contacted the Los Angeles Police Department three days later. They complained there "was a strong smell of decay coming from the vehicle, which was attracting flies."

After obtaining a search warrant, officers then opened the front trunk around 10:30 a.m. They discovered a "black cadaver bag covered with insects and a strong odor of decay."

The petition states that using "black latex gloves, detectives partially unzipped the bag and observed a decomposed head and torso." Investigators and criminalists from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner were then called.

"Upon removing the cadaver bag from the front storage compartment, it was discovered the arms and legs had been severed from the body," the petition reads. "A second black bag was discovered underneath the cadaver bag. Upon opening the second bag, the dismembered body parts were discovered."

According to the petition, D4vd "may be involved in the death of 14-year-old victim Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who may have been a victim of foul play" and refers to him as a "target" of a grand jury investigation.

Has D4vd Been Cooperating?

A source informed PEOPLE that the "Romantic Homicide" singer has not cooperated with authorities from the beginning of the investigation.

Reports state that Crocs and Hollister removed D4vd from their new campaign upon the news of Hernandez's murder. The remaining dates of his "Withered" tour were canceled. His label, Interscope, then put a hold on all promotional activties. Kali Uchis, who worked with the singer on the track "Crashing," has pulled the song from streaming services.
