Alexandria, or "Lexi," claimed that when she was a teenager, she was forced to go to a treatment center. This happened soon after the "Let's Dance" singer was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2014. She describes this time as one of the most fragile periods of her life.

The Daughter of David Bowie Said She Reached Her "Breaking Point"

When Lexi was 14, she was abusing drugs, struggling with depression, and had an eating disorder. When Bowie got his cancer diagnosis, she reached what she calls her "breaking point."

Friends were experimenting with drugs and alcohol. She says she wasn't using them for fun.

"I wasn't experimenting, I was escaping," she said. "Escaping from my complicated mind, my complicated family, my complicated school. When the party ended for everyone else, I kept going. And I drank and got high alone."

Before she was forcibly taken from her home, she says her father read a letter he had written her. The last line said, "I'm sorry we have to do this."

She described the moment when two men entered her home on a weekday morning to take her away.

"They told me I could do this the easy way or the hard way," she said. "I chose the hard way."

Lexi Learned Her Father Died While She Was in Treatment

After that traumatic experience, Lexi claims she was taken to a wilderness therapy program. When she arrived, she was strip-searched. She was then given a fleece, snow pants, boots, and a backpack.

"We made fires by stripping birch bark and striking flint and steel," she said. "I was a city girl. I didn't even know this kind of program existed."

After three months, Lexi was taken to a residential treatment center in Utah. She was there for more than a year. During her stay, she learned Bowie had died.

"I had the luxury of speaking to him two days before, on his birthday," said Lexi. "I told him I loved him and he said it back, and we both knew."

But when the news claimed that Bowie was surrounded by his family, she said she felt physically ill.

Said Lexi, "Yeah, the whole family was there. Except for me."
