What would compel anyone to boo Carrie Underwood?
Videos by Wide Open Country
The former contestant and now-judge of American Idol recently shared on social media that she got "booed A LOT" from the Hollywood Week audience.
We couldn't understand why anyone would do this to the "Jesus Take the Wheel" singer, so we're taking a deep dive into what, if anything, people have against Underwood.
Carrie Underwood Was Just Trying To Promote "American Idol"
In the post, Underwood tagged the reality singing competition's account, so this obviously is a promotion of some sort. Maybe the audience's discontent stems from something that happens on the show, rather than anything to do with the singer herself.
This seems very plausible, considering what has already occurred since the show returned for a new season.
On the Monday, Feb. 2 episode, Underwood quipped to judge Luke Bryan, "I couldn't stop looking at her baby knees." Bryan was confused, so Underwood explained herself. "Like when you have a face in your knees?" she went on.
Of course, the innocent comment divided the internet. Given this, who knows what crazy story Underwood might share during Hollywood Week?
Fans Are Still Upset Over Her Perceived Political Associations
Despite performing "America the Beautiful" at President Donald Trump's inauguration last year, Underwood hasn't been outspoken about her political beliefs.
But as we reported last month, producers are reportedly "growing increasingly uneasy over backlash swirling around Carrie Underwood and her perceived political alignment."
However, this season's debut had its highest ratings in four years, so it would appear that, behind the scenes, the situation is overblown.
On the internet, however, it's a different story.
Users on X replied to Underwood's tweet with some vitriol. One user wrote, "We don't care, that's what u deserve MAGA girl."
Another replied with, "As should anyone who performed for Trump."
"Your actions and choices have consequences," wrote another user. "Thoughts and prayers."
Of course, many rallied to Underwood's defense.
"That's a testament to your strength," wrote one user. Another added, "They are misrable haters!! You are amazing."
"That's a WIN," wrote a fan. "Stand up for what you believe in."
And the always opinionated John Rich wrote, "Good! The last thing you want is Hollywood thinking well of you."
Of course, we won't really know the reason for the boos until Feb. 23, which is when Hollywood Week begins.
