It's all part of a new digital overhaul that the popular membership-only big-box warehouse club store is undergoing. We have all the details below.
You Can Finally Do This on the Costco App
If you ever ordered a custom cake or deli tray from Costco, then you know how frustrating it can be. Customers would have to drive to their nearest store and fill out an order form by hand.
Head to Reddit and you'll see users post how exasperating ordering a cake can be, especially when you don't have a store location nearby.
"I live 40ish minutes from my local Costco, so yes, an online order process would be very nice," one user said.
"Same. I really don't want to drive there two days in a row... when it's my Birthday," replied another.
But good news is on the way. This annoying, archaic method is going by the wayside. It will soon be replaced by a more streamlined method. Soon, these orders can be made on Costco's mobile app or its website, according to the New York Post.
"Very excited about what we have coming in the app," said CEO Ron Vachris. "We've got ordering cakes and deli trays online coming. So many of the things that we've heard from our members that could be a little bit clunky are now moving to a digital state, and we're seeing great adoption right out of the chute."
When Can We Start Ordering on the App?
The new ordering system is expected to include both sheet cake and customizable cake options. Customers can choose from a range of sizes, shapes, flavors, designs, and inscriptions. If it follows the current system, cakes and deli trays will be ready within 24-48 hours.
However, if you're hoping that this new ordering feature will be ready by your birthday this year, you might be a little disappointed.
Costco has not yet provided a specific date for its implementation across all its locations. It has been reported that it is expected that the ordering feature will be available by the end of this year.
