What Is the Problem?
Per a formal complaint obtained by People, the landlord and this particular location of Raising Cane's are duking it out legally. The landlord's ire over the supposed chicken-fingers smell is at the heart of the matter. But it's evidently a bit more complicated than that.
In Raising Cane's complaint, the landlord of the property, which is 755 Boylston, LLC, is being accused by the restaurant of "an extortionate scheme." The eatery contends that it faces eviction over the alleged unavoidable chicken odor unless it agrees "to waive its unambiguous right to be the exclusive chicken restaurant use at that location."
Raising Cane's Says It Has Spent Thousands To Deal With the Smell
The restaurant's complaint states that the owner of the site knowingly leased it to the restaurant "for the preparation and sale of chicken finger meals." To try and address the problematic situation, however, Raising Cane's has allegedly spent some $200,000 to diminish the chicken smell at this location. Nevertheless, the landlord maintains that the odor constitutes a breach of the lease.
"Litgation Is Not What We Do"
A rep for Raising Cane's reportedly told People, "We're Chicken Finger fanatics - litigation is not what we do. We hate that we're in this position and haven't been able to come to terms with our landlord." Despite that, there is still evidently an expectation that "the 'situation can be resolved amicably.'"
