The restaurant is the latest company to support the White House's investment initiative for children born between 2025-2028.
"Steak 'n Shake pledges to support our employees' children with a $1,000 match to ["Trump Accounts"] for every child born between 2025 and 2028," the company shared on social media. "Steak 'n Shake has benefited from our country's prosperity, and we are committed to giving back to our communities and our country."
What Are "Trump Accounts"?
"Trump Accounts" were created when the "One Big Beautiful Bill" was passed.
They are tax-advantaged investment accounts set up for U.S. children under the age of 18. Additionally, the Treasury Department will deposit a one-time $1,000 seed contribution for every child born between 2025-2028. That money will then be invested in low-cost stock market index funds, or ETFs.
Families, employers, relatives, charities, and others can also add up to $5,000 per year into each account. When the child turns 18, they can use the funds for college, homeownership, or starting a business. The goal is to give young citizens a financial head start and encourage early investing and wealth building.
Why Is Steak 'n Shake Doing This?
FOX Business reports that Steak 'n Shake's chairman, Sardar Biglari, has been focused on creating opportunities for franchisees. The "Trump Accounts" initiative mirrors his personal philosophy.
"He started with $15,000 and went on to build Biglari Holdings, the enterprise that now owns Steak 'n Shake and other companies," said a spokesperson.
They added, "He has given franchisees the ability to live the American dream, as they are chosen for their talent alone. And now he is proudly supporting the children of our employees. Perhaps they will have the seed capital to build their own businesses one day, if they so choose."
Steak 'n Shake joins JP Morgan Chase and Bank of America in matching the government's contribution to employee's "Trump Accounts." Nicki Minaj has also pledged her support, saying she intends to contribute $300,000 to fund her fans' accounts.
