“Love America, Love Football, Love Jesus”: Kid Rock Talks About His Motivation for Doing Turning Point USA’s Halftime Show

Kid Rock, who has been dealing with controversy surrounding the Rock the Country festival, spoke with Fox News about TPUSA's halftime show.

Kid Rock spoke with Fox News on Friday on the Turning Point USA Halftime Show, which will take place around the same time as the NFL Super Bowl Halftime Show. In recent weeks, the singer has been receiving significant backlash for his association with the Rock the Country festival. Both events appear to have a similar purpose.

Kid Rock will be headlining the event, which aims to celebrate "faith, family, and freedom." The lineup for the show also includes Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. When asked about his motivation for doing something alternative, he said that "Turning point read the room."

"There's a big portion of this country, like it or not, that's underserved entertainment-wise," he explained. "We're just gonna go play for our base, people who love America, love football, love Jesus."

This year's Super Bowl halftime show will include performances from Bad Bunny and Green Day. When asked about the "polarizing acts" that were chosen for the lineup, here's what he had to say.

"If the NFL really were about its stated goals, and really wanted to take care of their fanbase, it seems to me like, why not do things that are really right from those cities, really celebrate the culture of any city they're in," he continued. "There's a band that checks every single box from San Francisco by the name of Metallica."

He also suggested several rappers from the area that he thought would have aligned with NFL's fanbase more.

Kid Rock's Response to the Backlash

Kid Rock is one of the faces of the Rock the Country festival, which has been causing quite a ruckus lately. The festival, which has been advertising itself as "a place for hard-working, God-fearing patriots to gather as one and celebrate freedom," has seen numerous artists drop out of its lineup. Ludacris, Carter Faith, Morgan Wade, and the band Shinedown were previously on the bill. All four artists have chosen to withdraw.

The rapper, who's undoubtedly familiar with online hate, had a message for the haters about the Turning Point halftime show.

"Of course, the media and the haters are going to try to detrack from it," he shared, "and I think I would like to get this point across once again when I say that I speak for Turning Point and all the artists involved: that none of us are approaching this with any hate in our hearts."

The Turning Point halftime show will take place around 8:00 PM ET tomorrow and will be streamed on Turning Point's official social media channels.
