“I Believe United We Stand, Divided We Fall”: Brantley Gilbert Reveals Why He’s Singing at Turning Point USA’s Halftime Show

The Super Bowl halftime show is getting intense attention. Brantley Gilbert described why he'll sing at Turning Point USA's alternative show.

The Super Bowl LX halftime show has become a thorny subject of contention this year, with political overtones creeping in. Some fans have expressed disappointment and irritation with the pick of Grammy-winning artist and Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny as the headliner for the prominent gig. That prompted Turning Point USA, which was founded by the late Charlie Kirk, to jump in with their alternative, more MAGA-friendly, "All-American" halftime production. It will feature Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett.

Gilbert decided to let people know why he wanted to participate in the event. He wrote a long, heartfelt post on social media explaining his reasons for getting on board. His goal is unity, not division. The caption reads, "For those asking 'who is Brantley Gilbert?' and 'why is he playing this event?'"

Gilbert Got Real About Himself and His Past in the Post

Writing with candor, paternal pride, and obvious passion on Instagram, Brantley Gilbert discussed his challenging past and how it shaped him. He wrote in part, "I'm a recovering addict with the history of all the bad choices that come with it. I'm not proud of those choices, but I am proud of the choice I've made to live in another direction. I share my story through my music, in hopes that it may help and inspire others in their darkest hour. I'm a Christian and I love our country, despite its flaws."

Gilbert added, "...I'm not playing this show to be divisive. I was offered this opportunity and imagined my kids watching their daddy perform at halftime during the biggest game in American Football. Everything I do, I do for them...I believe 'united we stand, divided we fall,' and my prayer for our country is that we stand united...."

Fans' Reactions Were Mixed

Some pushed back very negatively on Brantley Gilbert's statement on social media. They felt that the Turning Point show is not really the halftime show. Others were fiercely admiring and supportive.

"Suuuurrreeee. Btw you're playing for TPUSA, not the NFL."

"And ummmm, you are not playing at the Super Bowl."

"Give em hell brother!!"

"Always by your side and proud of you, BG. Keep doin' your thing and don't let anyone stop you and get in your way. Much love my brother in Christ!"

"My favorite!!! Well said!"

"That's cool, but you won't be performing at half time. You'll be performing during halftime at a completely different venue that is complete unrelated to the NFL. Don't pretend country music isn't partially derived from Latino culture and music...."

"You're not playing a halftime show... You are playing in a televised show at the same time and were asked to play to pull viewers away from the actual halftime show. As a fellow artist, this is bad form...."
