Sonny Jurgensen has died at the age of 91. Jurgensen, an NFL Hall of Fame quarterback, is best known for his time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders.

The Commanders shared a statement on social media following confirmation of the news.
"It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather, Sonny Jurgensen," the statement reads. "We are enormously proud of his amazing life and accomplishments on the field, marked not only by a golden arm, but also a fearless spirit and intellect that earned him a place among the legends in Canton. But to those of us who knew him beyond the stadium lights, he was the steady, humorous, and deeply loving heart of our family."
Jurgenson still holds records with the Commanders, including being second all-time for passing yards with 22,585. He's also ninth all-time with the Eagles for passing yards, throwing 9639 yards during his tenure with the franchise.
"We are comforted by the knowledge that he brought joy to so many," the Commanders' statement continues. "This weekend as we enjoy the game that he loved so much, join us and raise a glass, share a story and a smile, as we celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who was, to us, the greatest of all time."
Sonny Jurgensen Stayed in Football After He Retired
During his career, Jurgensen made five Pro Bowls and was a two-time First-Team All-Pro selection. He retired at the end of the 1974 season, bringing an 18-season career to an end. However, Jurgensen didn't leave football behind in his retirement.
The Hall of Famer spent the next 38 years working as an analyst for the Commanders' broadcasts. He retired from that role in 2018.
Jurgensen gave his life to football. From his playing days to those breaking down the game and sharing his voice with the masses, it was a true love. His presence will be missed by football fans around the world.
