Thomas Rhett Reveals the Surprising Genre of Music He'd Want To Perform Outside Country Music

Country music star Thomas Rhett might like to switch things up a bit artistically. He sees himself testing this unlikely genre someday.

It's exciting for singers to switch things up sometimes. Maybe they get a little bored and feel kind of stale. Or they just want to try something new to challenge themselves. Perhaps they shun being too predictable. Making a course change can be very successful. Beyonce and Darius Rucker both opted to go full-scale country. It worked out really great for them. Post Malone made a transition to country, too. It fits Posty like a proverbial glove.

So when Thomas Rhett talked about maybe someday dabbling in another genre besides country, it was not a total shock. (Country music is in his blood, though; he is the son of country icon Rhett Akins.) What was eyebrow-raising, however, was the type of music he'd like to try out.

Rhett Might Go Retro

When the "Gone Country" singer spoke to the Everett Post, he mused about two potential musical paths for him to attempt in the future. Like possibly going old-style Las Vegas crooner or testing the waters with catchy-sounding, toe-tapping Motown magic.

Rhett shared, "Probably something in the Motown space or literally being able to hire an orchestra for like a month and go write some kinda Sinatra-esque type songs, and be able to sing them live with the orchestra the way that they did it back then."

He then hedged a bit. "I can't tell you it'd be good, but it'd be something that I think would be really fun."

He's Not Ditching Country Anytime Soon

Thomas Rhett, 35, is a very busy guy these days. He's gadding about with folks like Morgan Wallen on his Still the Problem tour and Luke Combs doing his My Kinda Saturday Night tour. Per Rhett's website, he will be with Wallen on April 10 in Minneapolis, May 2 in Las Vegas, May 15 in Gainesville, Florida, and July 24 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Then Rhett hits the road with Luke Combs. They will play on July 31, August 1, and August 2 in London. After those gigs across the pond, Rhett's back in the United States again. You can find him in Detroit on August 6 and then in Montreal on August 15. His country music career is definitely going full-tilt.
