Carlile Discussed the Enormity of Singing "America the Beautiful"
The Grammy-winning singer was recently a guest on The SoCal Sound on SCSN with Nic Harcourt. She spoke frankly and with robust feeling about preparing to do "America the Beautiful" at Super Bowl LX. Carlile cherishes the idealism that the song represents to so many.
She shared, "That is a song that I can fully put every piece of my weight behind, every piece of my heart and soul I can put inside the lyric of 'America the Beautiful' and mean it. And if I couldn't, I wouldn't. I wouldn't have sung it."
Carlile added, "And to me, on some level, that is my national anthem because it upholds and embraces the idea of America and what America is supposed to be for everyone. And a belief that it can still happen and it's not dominant and it's not militaristic and it's not exceptionalism. ?All I can say is that my prayer for this country is within that song."
She Will Be Part of a "Huge" Event
She is fully aware of the magnitude of singing at the Super Bowl. And from her words, Carlile is definitely ready and eager. "Number one, when you're born and raised in this country, it's like you use the Super Bowl as a barometer to gauge when something's huge. So, you're like, oh my God, this thing is so big. It could be the Super Bowl. You know, it is actually the definition of massive."
