But the myriad demands of Oklahoma ranch life sometimes also necessitate her and her husband of thirty years Ladd's attention. Such was the case when a calf was in danger and needed some quick help. Their compassionate intervention saved the hapless creature.
Ree Drummond Explained What Happened on Social Media
The tale of the little critter starts of alarmingly but fortunately ends well. Drummond, 57, shared on Instagram in a post and video that Ladd noticed a cow alone in a pasture and his curiosity was piqued. She had given birth just a day earlier. Even more concerning was the fact that her calf was nowhere to be seen.
Drummond wrote, "So while the cattle were eating, [Ladd] drove back to the spot where he'd spotted [the mother cow] earlier." He then finally located the calf, who had not eaten and was therefore so feeble that it was not able to go with its mother.
Ladd scooped the animal up and brought it to his truck to get warm out of the bitter winter cold.
Getting the Calf Fed Was the Next Priority
Helping the baby cow to eat was crucial. Its mother was too engorged to nurse, Drummond wrote. A couple of the ranch hands milked the mother cow so Drummond and Ladd could feed the life-sustaining liquid to the calf. It temporarily sheltered in a garage away from the harsh weather. All was then well, thanks to Ree and Ladd Drummond and their timely, humane actions.
