While losing weight hasn't always been easy for the singer, it doesn't mean it hasn't been fun. Last year, Jelly Roll made his WWE debut. He first appeared on an episode of WWE SmackDown in July to save Randy Orton from heel Logan Paul.
Then, after performing "God Bless America" for the crowd at SummerSlam, Jelly Roll gave Grayson Waller a choke slam. Then he, The Miz, and R-Truth do John Cena's 'Five Knuckle Shuffle' on Austin Theory.
As delightful as it must be for Jelly Roll to body slam and clothesline the stars of the WWE, it took a lot of work for the Nashville native to do it. We'll share all the details of the training he underwent to do it below.
Jelly Roll Moved to Florida
On a segment of the Netflix documentary series WWE: Unreal, the singer shared what he went through to make his wrestling appearances look as realistic as possible. He was concerned that fans wouldn't accept him in the ring.
For starters, Jelly Roll moved his family out of Nashville temporarily and rented two homes in Orlando, Florida. One home was for him and his family, and another was for his crew. The singer spent all day training, while in the evening he wrote and recorded music.
The training was rigorous. To prepare for his appearances, Jelly Roll let wrestlers throw him through 15 tables. He even asked league executive Triple H if he could lose the match so he could earn the fans' respect. He didn't want to take any shortcuts.
He definitely earned plenty of respect from Orton.
"He knows what it takes to perform in that ring," he said. "I was so impressed. He blew anyone else out of the water that tried stepping out of their world and into the ring."
