The Grand Ole Opry kicked off the birthday celebrations for the "Jolene" star on Jan. 17, over the weekend. However, Parton did not attend.
"I wish I could be there in person, but I'll be sending you all my love for sure," Parton said in a video message. "So you have the best night ever."
Looking ahead, this year will also see the opening of Dolly's Tennessean Travel Stop in Cornersville, Tennessee, and her SongTeller Hotel and Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville. She will even kick off a residency in Las Vegas, which was originally scheduled for 2025.
Parton also released new music last week, and we have the details below.
Dolly Parton Revised One of Her Hits
Last week, Parton shared a new version of her 1977 song "Light Of A Clear Blue Morning". According to the singer's website, the revised track is a reimagination of the classic tune.
Joining Parton are Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah, Reba McEntire, and Miley Cyrus, who also happens to be Parton's goddaughter. Playing piano is the hit songwriter and producer David Foster. The Christ Church Choir also appears on the track.
"Originally written and recorded 50 years ago in 1976 during a period of personal transition and renewed optimism, 'Light Of A Clear Blue Morning' has long stood as one of Dolly's most inspirational works," according to Parton's website. "Now, five decades later, Dolly revisits the song for a new generation with a powerhouse lineup of female voices."
Proceeds from the track benefit pediatric cancer research at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee.
That's a remarkable gift from Parton on her birthday.
Today Is Dolly Parton Day in Tennessee
Tennessee's governor, Bill Lee, proclaimed today, Jan. 19, as "Dolly Parton Day" in the state. As it hosts her Dollywood amusement park, it's a significant honor.
"Dolly Parton's life and career is woven into Tennessee's music, culture, and rich history," said Lee. "Her talent and generosity have made a lasting impact on the world, and it is fitting that we honor her 80th birthday by celebrating her remarkable legacy and dedication to the Volunteer State."
These celebrations come after a year in which Parton canceled appearances that left her absent from several events. Since then, she has assured fans that she is "okay."
Happy birthday, Dolly! Check out the video for "Light Of A Clear Blue Morning" below.
