The movie is based on a country music star whose career is in free fall. Apatow is working as the director on the movie, which he co-wrote with Powell. Powell and Cristin Milioti will be the primary stars of the flick.
Apatow has previously directed hit movies such as The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Trainwreck, and Knocked Up. His latest venture will also run through Apatow Productions, which has a deal with Universal.
"The project is a high priority of the studio, but given Powell's wildly busy schedule, the shoot wasn't able to go to this spring," Deadline reported. "The silver lining of the wait is Apatow having the time to meet with top-tier talent for Powell's co-star, ultimately leading him to Milioti."
The upcoming country music movie will take adavantage in the rise of global interest in the genre. Apatow would be wise to ensure there's a memorable soundtrack as part of the film, especially if the songs are going to be a mixture of originals and covers.
Niki Glaser Reveals How Much Judd Apatow Paid Her To Babysit His Kids
Apatow might be a successful actor and director, but away from the movie sets, he's just like the rest of us. That means, from time to time, he might need a babysitter to watch his kids. The only difference is his babysitter appears to be Nikki Glaser.
"Oh, they paid well," Glaser said during an appearance on the Howard Stern Show. "This was 2007. I think it was $35/$40 an hour, which is more than I'd ever been paid to babysit. And his kids were so sweet, they were so funny."
Glaser's gig as a babysitter came before she broke into Hollywood. And that relationship with Apatow appears to have continued into the movie world. During the same conversation with Stern, Glaser revealed that she and Apatow are working on a movie together.
"We're writing a movie together," Glaser told Howard. "I was secretly dying to work with him. I'd done a scene in Trainwreck and seen how he was on set, and like this seems so fun and always loved his work. But I would never have dared to ask him for anything again. I went in and we were just talking like old friends."
It sounds like Apatow is going to be busy. The good side of that is we're going to have some fun new movies to look forward to in the coming years, starting with Feb. 5, 2027.
