Crystal Gayle is dealing with a torn meniscus in her knee. The injury has forced her to pull out of the "Your Roots are Showing" event in Belfast, Ireland. During an interview with PEOPLE, Crystal aired her frustrations over her knee issues.

"These things happen and you don't want it to," she said. "I've never had anything like this ... mentally, you're going through a 'why me?'...I can go and sit and sing, but it does put you in a different place mentally ... it is harder to get around, but hopefully in the near future, it won't be...I've had a great career. I've had so many wonderful people behind me, behind the scenes, as well as people coming to the concerts. And I feel very lucky."
Crystal, 75, is currently working on a new album. "Melodic Genius - the Songs Of Burt Bacharach" is set to be released later this year. While her inability to travel internationally has likely been a low point of the past few months, she will undoubtedly be looking forward to the release of her new work.
Gayle rose to prominence on the country scene during the 70s and 80s. "Straight To The Heart" reached No. 1 in 1986, marking her initial rise to fame. Some of Crystal's other hits include "I'll Get Over You," "You And I," and "Why Have You Left The One You Left Me For."
Crystal Gayle Released a Statement After Pulling Out of Ireland Event
When it became clear that Crystal would be unable to fly to Ireland for the "Your Roots are Showing" event, she released a press statement for her fans.
"I was truly looking forward to coming to Belfast, singing a few songs, sharing some stories, and spending time with everyone," Gayle said in a press release. "But my doctor tells me this knee isn't ready for those overseas miles just yet. I promise I'll be Ready for the Times to Get Better...Just not at 30,000 feet next week. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope we can make it up to you soon."
Her fanbase will now be hoping that she can make that trip in the future, once her injury has healed as she's cleared for international travel again.
