Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, died three years ago today, on January 12, 2023. She was just 54 years old. The cause of her death was a bowel obstruction. It was believed to have resulted from previously performed bariatric surgery. Her mother, 80, has revealed the sweet, heartbreaking gesture she made to honor Lisa Marie after she passed away. That disclosure is in Priscilla's book, Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis.

Lisa Marie's Funeral Was Held at Graceland
Fittingly, the funeral service and burial of Lisa Marie were held at Elvis Presley's legendary estate in Memphis, Graceland. There were about 100 people present at the chapel on the grounds of Graceland. They had a chance to say a final farewell to this woman who had endured so much tragedy in her life.
Elvis died when Lisa Marie was just a child. She had multiple marriages. And her son, Benjamin, took his own life in 2020 at the age of 27. All of these events were understandably extremely hard for Lisa Marie. Bidding farewell to her only child must have been crushing for Priscilla. She, too, has had a life marked by sadness.
Priscilla Presley wrote in her book, "After everyone had a chance to talk to one another and say goodbye to Lisa, they were shepherded outside the chapel into a small clearing, so the family could say goodbye privately. I lingered until the end."
Echoes of Elvis as Lisa Marie Was Laid To Rest
She added, "I had brought a memento with me, a small object that Lisa had loved as a toddler. I'd kept it ever since, safely tucked away, a precious reminder of the little blonde girl my daughter once was. Before they closed the lid to her coffin, I gently tucked it under her hand so she could carry it with her the way she used to. Then I kissed her goodbye for the last time as I had kissed her father almost fifty years earlier, only a hundred yards away."
Whereas Elvis's funeral was attended by thousands of shocked and grieving fans, Lisa Marie's funeral was intimate and low-key. Yet the emotions of that occasion were very intense. Sadly, Lisa Marie left behind not only her mother, but three children: a daughter, Riley, from her marriage to Danny Keough, and two young daughters from her marriage to Michael Lockwood.
