The 1990s country icon is ready to make 2026 her year. Earlier this week, she went on TikTok to share some long-awaited new music.
The red-haired "I'm Alright" singer recently posted a clip, captioned with, "Here's a snippet of the first single off of the new record. Coming soon... I'm so excited!!! Whatcha think??"
Messina stands on a bridge wearing a pink silk tank top and velour pants. The TikTok audio suggests she is lip-syncing to her new single.
However, as she reaches the end of the chorus, she belts out that "some bridges are meant to burn" convincingly.
With a bold new look, new music, and some coordinated social media posts, it looks like Messina is ready to return to the spotlight.
Where Has Jo Dee Messina Been?
At the height of her popularity, Messina had nine number one hits, 16 Top 40 songs, and awards and nominations from the ACM, CMA, AMA, Billboard, and Grammy Awards.
Messina hasn't released a full-length since 2014. That album, titled Me, was funded through a Kickstarter campaign. Fans helped her reach her $100,000 goal, and even helped select the album's title and the first single, titled "Peace Sign." While it wasn't a big seller, critics said "she still had plenty to offer."
In 2017, the singer was diagnosed with cancer, which caused her to postpone tour dates that year so she could undergo treatment.
"I'm leaning on God," she told PEOPLE a year after her diagnosis. "I'm letting Him take charge. It's what's best for my soul right now. Every biopsy and every result...it feels like an eternity goes by. I know that God has me. I'm filled with gratitude and joy."
But Let's Face It... Messina Never Really Went Anywhere
Since her 2017 diagnosis and treatment, Messina has continued to release new songs and tour. Speaking of TikTok, she's been posting there regularly for years, giving fans plenty of fun content.
But as new listeners discover hits like "Heads Carolina, Tails California", the time is right to rebuild some bridges and maybe burn a few along the way.
