The singer died during a hike with his dog in the Arrochar Alps on New Year's Eve. It was the day after his birthday. Family members became concerned when Ure did not return home at the expected time.
Police Scotland then led a search for Ure, assisted by a helicopter. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"There are no suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal," a spokesperson shared, according to NME. "The dog was found alive and unharmed and has since been reunited with the man's family.
"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family, friends, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss."
Tributes Have Poured In for the Singer
Ure's band, The Ray Summers, began in 2008. The six-piece rock group would go on to open for the Britpop band Doves and Paolo Nutini. On Facebook, The Ray Summers paid tribute to their frontman.
"Andy was not only the rock in our band, he was the rock in our lives," the
post reads. "This hurts so so much. All our love & strength goes out to Andy's Linsey & his two wee boys, his family & all that were so lucky to know him."Beyond music, Ure also helped launch the Vibration Festival in Falkirk, Scotland, in 2019. It was postponed in 2024. He also worked as a director of The Wee Whisky Shop in Linlithgow, Scotland.
"Words cannot fully express the pain of this loss, and our thoughts are with Andrew's family at this incredibly difficult time," a post by The Wee Whisky Shop read. "Thank you to everyone who has already reached out with their kind messages and condolences."
Ure's brother David shared, "So many people have lost a part of their world as he meant so much to many. For me, I've lost my wee brother, my best pal, my business partner, my sounding board, and the daily reason I used my phone. Heartbroken doesn't even come close."
