Parker McCollum Reveals One Revelation About Being A Father That Completely Shattered Him

Parker McCollum's first child, son Major Yancey Tyler McCollum, was born last August, but already he is dreading when he grows up and leaves. McCollum recalls a conversation he had with his wife, Hallie Ray Light, soon after becoming a father, which forever changed his perspective.

"It broke my heart one day," McCollum recalls on Bunnie Xo's Dumb Blonde podcast (via Taste of Country). "It was like a month after he was born, and we were, changing his diaper," McCollum recounts, speaking about a conversation he had with his wife, Hallie Ray Light.

"She just said it so nonchalant," he continues. "She was like, 'Isn't it weird to think we won't be here for his whole life?' I was like, 'Holy s--t.'"

The comment was eye-opening for McCollum, and one he can't forget.

"Even saying it right now, that just shatters [me]," the "Hope That I'm Enough" singer acknowledges. "I'm like, 'No. That can't be how it is.'"

Parker McCollum Celebrates Son Major's Milestones

Major might be less than a year old, but the baby boy is constantly hitting new milestones, milestones McCollum is happy to brag about.

"He said 'Dada' the other day," McCollum recounts. "And I was like ... 'I feel weak right now," McCollum says.

"I'm never quitting," he adds with a laugh. "He's got me for life."

Major is still in the baby phase, with McCollum's wife doing a lot of the work. But McCollum expects that to change as his son grows.

"When they're eight months old and before, or even for the next few months, being a dad is ... you're not really showing or teaching him anything yet," McCollum explains. "I haven't been very good at the baby stuff."

In spite of Major adding a lot of responsibilities to McCollum's life, he says his son has also helped him learn to take time off, something he is notoriously bad at doing.

"I'm really bad at relaxing, I'm not very good at turning it off," McCollum tells CMT. "So he has made that a little bit easier... I'm turning it off, relaxing, I can kind of focus my attention on him and being a dad and hanging with Major, so that helps quite a bit."
