Just days before its fifth season finale, CBS canceled the popular show The Equalizer, which stars Queen Latifah as a former CIA operative and single mother. The show, a reboot of the 1985 series of the same name, will end on Sunday, May 4. Latifah, who is also the show's executive producer, reacted to the news by thanking everyone involved.

As reported by Deadline, despite The Equalizers producers agreeing to reduce the show's budget to help secure a sixth season, CBS opted to cancel the series altogether. Moreover, it appears that the fifth season' finale has been crafted in a way that serves as a series finale as well. Alongside The Equalizer, other cancelled shows include FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International, S.W.A.T., and Poppa's House.
Queen Latifah Reacts
On Instagram, Queen Latifah, who plays the series' protagonist, Robyn McCall, posted a heartfelt message to The Equalizer fans, reflecting on a role she has played since 2021.
"Stepping into a kick-ass role like Robyn was everything I hoped it would be," Latifah wrote on Instagram. "Shakim [Latifah's fellow executive producer] and I at Flavor Unit are always excited to bring these kinds of roles and projects to life—and then we just hope you love them as much as we do. The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal."
The actress then thanked the cast, crew, producers, and writers for their work over the past four years. She also went on to praise the fans, who have supported it throughout The Equalizer's five seasons.
"Y'all have been so loyal, so loud, and so ride-or-die—and that's exactly why we keep doing this," Latifah added. "We can't thank you enough. It means the world to us. And don't worry—I'll be back kicking ass in something new real soon. Can't wait to share it with you."
The Equalizer serves as a reboot of the 1985 show of the same name, which starred Edward Woodward as Robert McCall. The reboot also stars Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Lorraine Toussaint, and Chris Noth, among many others.
