Rascal Flatts Are Rightfully 'So Proud' Of Their Backstreet Boys' Duet

Rascal Flatts' duet with the Backstreet Boys is out. The trio and the boy band just dropped "What Hurts the Most." The song, a cover of Rascal Flatts' 2006 song, is from Flatts' Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets album, out on June 6.

"We have a long history with them over the years. We have such respect for what those guys have been able to do and how they've influenced a whole generation of pop music," Jay DeMarcus says, speaking of the Backstreet Boys. "We're so proud of how this song turned out; this has been a collaboration we've talked about doing for years, and we're so glad it finally came to fruition."

Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets features ten songs with other artists, including Rascal Flatts' "I Dare You" collaboration with the Jonas Brothers. But it's "What Hurts the Most" that set the tone for the entire record.

"The Backstreet Boys is the first thing we did, and it turned out great," Joe Don Rooney tells their record label. "That kind of kicked things off. And then we had a little pause there for a little bit. We got back on the horse and finally rounded it out. So proud of this project. Grateful to be able to do it."

Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets also includes collaborations with artists like Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Carly Pearce and more. The record marks their first since Back to Life came out in 2017.

"It was such an honor to create this project with such incredibly talented artists. It's a pretty indescribable feeling having your colleagues and friends do your songs in such unique ways and knock your socks off with the results," Gary LeVox says. "This album is just another attempt for us to thank our fans for the blessings they've given us on this crazy journey the past 25 years. Thanks for riding along with us!"

Rascal Flatts went their separate ways in 2020, not sure if they would ever reunite. But now, the threesome is back, and better than ever. The trio will perform with the Backstreet Boys at the upcoming ACM Awards, where they are nominated for Group of the Year, for the first time since 2016.
